It's fair to say that Hugh's
family have been involved in the fish and chip industry for over 60 years.
Hugh's grandfather purchased a fish and chip shop in 1947 in Harold Hill,
Romford, which the company still owns today. Hugh's parents took over the
shop in 1957 and ran it very successfully for many years. Hugh has always
been involved with fish and chips ever since he was a small child and understands
the business as well as anyone in the industry.
He started the company in 1971 when he bought his first shop in Harlow
that again, the company still owns today. Hugh was in partnership with
his two brothers for many years until they wanted to pursue other business
interests which gave Hugh the opportunity to orchestrate a Management
Buyout in 2004, thus bringing the company under his direct control. Since
then the company has grown to be the largest independent chain of fish
and chip shops in the country.
Hugh is very well regarded within the industry and still works in the
shops every Friday night so that he can keep in touch with the hands
on operation. |
